Penataran's temple is the largest and most importent Hindu temple complex in East Java. It lies just 10 km north of Blitar on the lower slopes of Mt. Kelud. Dedicated to the god siva, the temple was in use for at least three hundred years. From the 14 th. to 16 th. centurius. Most of the buildings which can be seem to day. However, were contructed during Majapahit's golden century.
We can see the beautiful reliefs, cureved on the teraces of the main temple and on the Pendopo's temple. It contens same Ramayana epics and local epics, for example, Kresnayana, Bubuksah, and Carangaking, Sudamala, and Sri Tanjung. Whereever, there are same fabels cureved on the bathroom, like Kancil Nyolong Timun ( litlle deer stoled cucumber ) and the ather fables.
